Do you need some new ideas to practice your students’ names? Look no further! I have 10 new name book ideas for preschool, pre-k, and kindergarten students to build, learn, and explore their names. A name book for preschool, pre-k, or kindergarten students is a great tool for morning work, early finishers, quiet time, fine motor tubs, or STEM drawers.
The FREE editable name practice books used throughout this post to create the name printables can be found here.

Reusable Editable Name Books! Slide the name printables into page protectors so students can use dry-erase markers on them and use them over and over again as they practice their names. This is great for morning table time or morning tubs. It would also be great for a reusable sign-in sheet. Read more about sign-in sheets here.
Single Use Name Book for Preschool, Pre-K, and Kindergarten! Make one for each child to keep at their desk or in their work area. These would be great for early finishers, morning work, or as a quiet project during rest time for those students that don’t sleep.
Name Books! This name book printable is editable, so you can make it for each child in your classroom. It has 10 different activities for preschool, pre-k, or kindergarten students to practice their names. It has lots of opportunities for manipulative work to improve fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Print out the entire book at once so you have something to keep your students busy for several days.
Name Building Tubs! Print the name pages on colored paper and place them in a tub for morning work or fine motor tubs. Laminate the pages for durability. Students can practice their own name or their friends. This will give them the opportunity to practice letter sounds and recognize individual letters.

Lego Mats! Use legos to build names for a great way to increase hand strength, problem-solving, and more. Students may need more than one mat to build on if they have a long name.
Mini Eraser Names! Students will have so much fun building their names with mini erasers! Be sure to use the smaller mini erasers so they fit. This is a great idea to match a theme in the classroom.
Bead Names! This page from the editable book is so much fun for little learners to improve their fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and pincer grasp while they string the beads on a string for pipe cleaners. These are my favorite letter beads!
Stick Names! Use popsicle sticks to build names for a construction, community helper, or farm theme in the classroom. The names will be printed smaller, so students will have to build their names on the table.
Pattern Block Names! Give students a challenge with the pattern block name page! This would be perfect for older kids to practice spatial awareness and STEM concepts. This may be too hard for young children.
Dough Names! Give students a sensory option to build their name with play dough! Students can roll play dough snakes or smash the play dough to cover their name. I suggest laminating this page so the play dough doesn’t stick to the paper. Don’t forget to lay out some scissors so students can cut the play dough snakes to the right length. This gives them another opportunity to practice cutting.
Now that you have some creative ideas to use the editable name books in your classroom grab your lesson plans and pencil this freebie in! I love all the possibilities for this name book to be used for the whole year. Plus, with so many building options, your students won’t get bored with it right away!
Just a reminder, this resource will be a PDF document. This means that you will NOT be able to change the font style, size, or location. You will be able to add your student’s names to the document, and it will auto-populate them on each page. If you need more printing or tech help, check out this post.
